Itโs hard not to love the music of the 1970s. By the end of the decade, the music was transforming into the new, unique sounds of the 1980s. Still, the year 1979 became the perfect end of one era and the start of another one. The 1970s had heavy rock songs, along with plenty of soft rock songs as well.
With that in mind, these are three of the best soft rock songs from 1979. They are all so good, itโs likely that every 1970s kid still knows them by heart today.

โLost In Loveโ by Air Supply
Air Supply had a lengthy career releasing soft rock songs, including โLost In Loveโ. One of their early hits, โLost In Loveโ is the title track of Air Supplyโs fifth studio album. The song was written by band member Graham Russell.
The retrospective song says, โLost in love and I don’t know much / Was I thinking aloud and fell out of touch? / But I’m back on my feet / And eager to be what you wanted.โ
โLost In Loveโ was actually released twice. The first time Air Supply released โLost In Loveโ, it was part of their Life Support album. The band reworked the song and released it again.
โI Just Fall In Love Againโ by Anne Murray
Anne Murray was in the middle of a long line of hits when she released โI Just Fall In Love Againโ. The song, part of Murrayโs New Kind Of Feeling album, was written by Steve Dorff, Harry Lloyd, and Gloria Sklerov.
Before Murray had a hit with โI Just Fall In Love Againโ, it was first released by The Carpenters in 1977. The Carpenters’ version appears on their Passage project.
โI Just Fall In Love Againโ became a No. 1 pop and country hit for Murray, one of her many crossover hits. The romantic song says, โAnd, oh, I just fall in love again / Just one touch, and then it happens every time / There I go, I just fall in love again, and when I do / I can’t help myself, I fall in love with you.”
โBabeโ by Styx
Styxโs first and only No. 1 single, โBabeโ is on their Cornerstone record. Band member Dennis DeYoung is the sole writer of โBabeโ.
An admission of feelings, โBabe” says, โYou know it’s you Babe / Whenever I get weary and I’ve had enough / Feel like giving up / You know it’s you Babe / Giving me the courage and the strength I need / Please believe that it’s true / Babe, I love you.”
Surprisingly, Styx only received one nomination for a Grammy throughout their extensive career, and it was for Cornerstone. The album also includes โWhy Meโ, a Top 30 single.
