3 Songs by The Beatles That Paul McCartney Thinks Fondly Of

Paul McCartney has had a negative thing or two to say about his work with The Beatlesโ€ฆ as well as other membersโ€™ work in The Beatles. Heโ€™s never been one to mince words and has been quite honest about the songs he wanted to improve on, as well as the ones he straight-up stole. However, Macca doesnโ€™t hate everything he produced with the Fab Four. In fact, there are quite a few songs that heโ€™s particularly fond of. Letโ€™s look at just a few Beatles songs that Paul McCartney has said he loves!

โ€œAnd Your Bird Can Singโ€

โ€œAnd Your Bird Can Singโ€ is a neat little deep cut from Revolver. In the notes on Anthology, Paul McCartney named the track as one of his favorite songs from that particular era, especially the Anthology version of the song.

โ€œOne of my favorites on the โ€˜Anthologyโ€™ is โ€˜And Your Bird Can Singโ€™, which is a nice song, but this take of it was one we couldnโ€™t use at the time,โ€ said McCartney. โ€œJohn and I got a fit of the giggles while we were doing the double-track. You couldnโ€™t have released it at the time. But now you can. Sounds great just hearing us lose it on a take.โ€

โ€œHappiness Is A Warm Gunโ€

This song from the White Album was written by John Lennon, and McCartney has praised it in the past. He even referred to the songโ€™s title, which was inspired by an ad in a gun magazine, as โ€œgood poetry.โ€ In the 2003 book The Beatles On Apple Records, McCartney and George Harrison allegedly named โ€œHappiness Is A Warm Gunโ€ as their favorite song from the White Album.

โ€œYou Know My Name (Look Up The Number)โ€

This little B-side from Let It Be is one of McCartneyโ€™s favorite tracks. Thatโ€™s saying a lot, considering he tends to avoid the โ€œwhich Beatles song is bestโ€ question in interviews whenever he can. Much of that fondness comes down to the memories of recording the song.

โ€œI always say โ€˜You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)โ€™, which is a zany, zany little B-side that nobody knows,โ€ said McCartney. โ€œBut we had such fun making it. Itโ€™s like a little comedy record. And I just remember the joy of making it.โ€
