Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch: “Good Vibrations” and “Wild Side” from Music for the People (1991)

Today, Mark Wahlberg is known for his acting in movies like The Departed and I Heart Huckabees. But he originally came up around the turn of the 1990s as Marky Mark, a pop-rapper who released songs like “Good Vibrations” and “Wild Side.” The former hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the latter peaked at No. 10. Both songs have great beats, but it’s “Good Vibrations” that really gets audiences on their feet—especially thanks to the lively energetic chorus.

Tone Lōc: “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina” from Lōc-ed After Dark (1989)

The most unique voice in all of rap history, Tone Lōc released two hit songs at the end of the 1980s—”Wild Thing,” which hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Funky Cold Medina,” which peaked at No. 3. Both songs are certainly of the era, so to speak. But both songs also get you on your feet thanks to the percussion and Lōc’s gravelly charming vocals. Fans of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective may remember him from the comedy films, but before that he was one of the hottest rappers on Earth.

Sisqo: “Thong Song” and “Incomplete” from Unleash the Dragon (2000)

The former frontman for the R&B group Dru Hill, Sisqo went solo around the turn of the 21st century and he broke thanks to his dancy song about underwear. “The Thong Song” was huge in 2000 and hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Fans from the clubs and high school dances were grooving to the beat of that track. But it was outdone by the singer’s other big solo hit “Incomplete,” which hit No. 1 the same year as the track about undergarments.
