4 Musicians That Noel Gallagher Hates (One of Them Might Surprise You)

Oasis’ co-founder has never been one to bite back a comment. Noel Gallagher has publicly beefed with a few musicians through the years, and he’s made less than positive comments about a few other musicians that he apparently hates.

Let’s look at a few examples, shall we? You might share his sentiments on a few of these, but one of these entries is actually pretty surprising.

Maroon 5

According to Noel Gallagher himself, the Oasis frontman met Maroon 5’s bass player at a party in Los Angeles back in the day. When the bassist introduced himself, Gallagher remembered that the band quite famously said that they were inspired by Oasis. Gallagher, sadly, wasn’t too happy about that.

“He said ‘I’m the bass player in Maroon 5,’” Gallagher told Jim Jefferies. “And I went ‘F*cking sh*t! How the f*ck have you gotten Maroon 5 from what I’m doing? Get the hell out of my sight.’”

Radiohead

Radiohead was in a league of their own during the Britpop era, but they were still pretty closely associated with that movement. Gallagher often had criticisms for other bands in the genre, and Radiohead did not escape his scorn.

During the Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants tour, Gallagher said that he watched Radiohead’s documentary Meeting People Is Easy. In that documentary, the members of Radiohead bemoan touring, which didn’t sit right with Gallagher.

“They’re stuck in the back of limousines telling you how bored they are being in a group,” he said. “If you don’t enjoy it, retire. Do us all a favour. Or move to a mansion in Oxford so we don’t have to listen to you bleeding on about how sh*t your life is.”

Ouch.

Phil Collins

The next musician that Noel Gallagher apparently hates is famed Genesis drummer and pop soloist Phil Collins. In the 2016 Oasis: Supersonic documentary film, Gallagher goes on about how music needs to get rid of the old guard before it can move toward something new and interesting. Collins caught a pretty violent stray.

“We’re gonna get rid of Phil Collins and Sting,” said Gallagher. “Junk food music, McDonald’s music, we’ve got to get in the charts and stamp them out. I want the severed head of Phil Collins in my fridge by the end of this decade. And if I haven’t, I’ll be a failure.”

The Beach Boys

This one’s honestly really surprising. Who could hate The Beach Boys? Well, Noel Gallagher does, apparently. According to him, the “God Only Knows” hitmakers are “overrated.”

“I think they’re [The Beach Boys] the most overrated group of all time,” said Gallagher. “The only reason they’re in any way successful is because they’re next to The Beatles in alphabetical order, and Paul McCartney likes them. That’s it. Just barbershop quartet music.”
