These country songs aren’t about surviving Friday the 13th. Instead, they’re all about finding good fortune. You’ll find an unexpected run of good luck, some superstitions to keep good love going, and one spiritual hack to keep yourself on the right side of the law. So, knock on wood and press play on these tracks. They might turn your luck around.
1. “I Feel Lucky” by Mary Chapin Carpenter
This 1990s country hit from Mary Chapin Carpenter might be the best song for Friday the 13th. She co-wrote the song with the legendary Don Schlitz and released it as a single in 1992. People have been cranking this anthem about an unexpected run of good luck since it hit the airwaves.
Everything from her horoscope to the Man Upstairs tells the song’s protagonist to go home and hide from the bad luck the day is bringing her way. In fact, her horoscope tells her the stars are stacked against her. However, she calls in sick, buys a lotto ticket, and wins $11 million. That’s just the beginning of her lucky streak.
2. “Bad Luck” by Zach Top
Zach Top co-penned this song with Carson Chamberlain for his album Cold Beer & Country Music. It’s the perfect song for any country fan who is looking for love this Friday the 13th. The lyrics tell the story of a gambler who just can’t catch a break. The song sees him losing everything. However, his luck turns around when he meets “the one.” It isn’t often that a guy can gamble away his rent money and still come out on top.
3. “Superstitions” by Jackson Dean
Jackson Dean co-wrote this song with Luke Dick and Dan Tyminski for his 2022 debut album, Greenbroke. The lyrics of this country song are full of superstitions that will help keep the bad luck at bay this Friday the 13th. However, Dean isn’t singing about folk beliefs to boost one’s luck in this song. Instead, he’s using these charms and talismans to keep a lover whom he feels fortunate to have in his life.
4. “Bible on the Dash” by Corb Lund and Hayes Carll
There aren’t any superstitions or lyrics about luck in this country song, but it’s a good one to keep in mind if you’re traveling on Friday the 13th. Co-written by Hayes Carll and Jason Boland, Corb Lund recorded “Bible on the Dash” with Carll for his 2012 album Cabin Fever. The song is about a group of musicians who stay out of trouble with the law by keeping a Bible on the dashboard of their vehicle and leveraging the power of Christianity to keep them out of cuffs.
