For their second album, Truth & Salvage Co. left the California coast, crossed the country and shacked up in Asheville, North Carolina. There, surrounded by mountains ranges and southern hospitality, they tracked the songs that became Pick Me Up. On the album’s lead single, “Appalachian Hilltop,” the guys pay a harmony-rich, twang-heavy tribute to the region that has always inspired their music.
“‘Appalachian Hilltop,’ to me, reflects the struggle of small town America rising above the hard ships and consequences of this economy-driven modern world,” says drummer Bill “Smitty” Smith. “I’ve seen it happen firsthand in my hometown. And I see everyday American people with a dedication to community and a strong work ethic, shining through these rough times. We wrote this song for them.”
‘When I listen to ‘Appalachian Hilltop,’” adds guitarist Tim Jones, “I think of my parents and their parents and their parents’ parents, and all the generations who came before who kept their chin up despite overwhelming odds and circumstances, and made survival their success story. Sometimes, just the belief that life can get better is enough.”
