The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced that it will celebrate its 25th anniversary with, obviously, a rock star-studded concert. The two-day event will take place October 29th and 30th in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
“Twenty-five years ago a group led by legendary Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun created this foundation to recognize and celebrate the music and careers of artists whose music helped shape and define our generation,” said Jann S. Wenner, executive producer of the event and founder and editor of Rolling Stone. Through their performances, the concerts are meant to pay tribute to these artists and celebrate their storied careers.
Performers on the 29th include Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Stevie Wonder, Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Friends. On the 30th, U2, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, and Metallica will perform. The website for the event states that more performers will be added throughout the summer.
The creative team, which, according to Rolling Stone, includes the likes of Tom Hanks, Robbie Robertson, and Cameron Crowe, is fashioning the concerts in a way that retraces the history of rock and roll; the performers and their guests will “be your guides through sixty years of rock and roll history,” claims the site.

All proceeds from the shows will go to create a permanent endowment for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
