“How Much Y’all Spend on Bleach?” Toby Keith Once Put the Beatdown on a Man Who Insulted His Hair

With hits like “As Good As I Once Was” and “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American,)” Toby Keith became country music’s poster child for unabashed bravado. Since his death in February following a two-year battle with stomach cancer, many in the industry have come forward with stories that suggest it was more than just an act. Country singer Cledus T. Judd recently recounted a time when he witnessed the “Red Solo Cup” hitmaker in action.

“How Much Y’all Spend on Bleach?”

Born James Barry Poole, Cledus T. Judd is best known for his parody songs like “I Love NASCAR” and “Bake Me a Country Ham.”

Sitting down with Tracy Lawrence for his TL’s Road House podcast, Cledus T. Judd recalled a raucous night on the town with Toby Keith. It all started when a fan approached the Big Dog Daddy for an autograph request during dinner. Keith told the man he would be happy to sign it—once he had finished eating.

According to Judd, the guy “said a few expletives under his breath” before walking off. However, he found the pair again later that night at a different bar.

Apparently, the man said “something real smart” to Keith, who replied, “Best thing you can do is probably go enjoy your evening just like we [are] going [to] enjoy ours.”

Toby Keith Carried The Man “Like a 12-Pack Of Beer”

But the guy still wasn’t done. Meeting up later at a different bar, he again approached the “How Do You Like Me Now?” singer with “one quick question.”

“The guy said, ‘How much y’all spend on bleach to bleach y’all’s hair so y’all look like a tag team bunch of wrestlers?” Judd said. “And I thought, ‘Well, this is going to be the end of your life right here.’”

Sure enough, Toby Keith instantly had the man by his belt loops “like he was carrying a 12-pack of beer out of a convenience store.”

“This guy was on his hands and knees kicking like a little puppet and Toby was just toting him out through there,” Judd said.
