During a recent appearance at the University of Vermont children’s hospital, Noah Kahan had to change the lyrics of his hit song “Stick Season.” He just needed to be a little more appropriate for the particular audience.

In a video posted on TikTok, Kahan sat with his guitar in front of a simple backdrop of pine trees. He performed “Stick Season” to a group of gathered children and parents. Many of them seemed to be fans, judging by the giggles from adults when he noticeably changed the lyrics.
The original lines of “Stick Season” are “Now I am stuck between my anger and the blame that I can’t face / And memories are somethin’ even smoking weed does not replace.” Kahan changed the lyrics to “And memories are something’ even climbing trees does not replace.” This made the song a little more kid-friendly.
The second change he made came in the chorus. The original lines are “And it’s half my fault, but I just like to play the victim / I’ll drink alcohol ’til my friends come home for Christmas.” There were audible laughs when Kahan changed the lyrics to “I’ll drink applesauce ’til my friends come home for Christmas.” He even shared in the chuckle during his performance.

Noah Kahan to Appear On the 55th Season of Sesame Street
Noah Kahan might have to keep these altered lyrics in his back pocket this coming March. He’s slated to appear on an episode of Sesame Street on March 6. The iconic show is currently celebrating its 55th season. Additional musical guests include Chris Stapleton, SZA, Renee Rapp, and Samara Joy.
This past January, Sesame Street icon Elmo introduced the coming season. “There’s a lot to learn from music—yeah, timing and harmonies and melody and different styles and different cultures,” said Elmo. “It’s really cool! We’ve got a lot of wonderful people come and do some music with us on ‘Sesame Street,’ like Miss Reneé Rapp and SZA. Chris Stapleton, Noah Kahan, Samara Joy … lots of great people.”
According to an official description from Sesame Street, this season is focusing on “emotional well-being, helping children learn accessible strategies to comprehend and cope with big feelings through fun, lighthearted, relatable, and engaging stories.”
Noah Kahan should fit right in on Sesame Street this season. He’s a proven storyteller and often works through complicated emotions in his music. With his focus on mental health and wellbeing, Kahan will be a welcome guest on Sesame Street.
