Gibson has been on an absolute tear lately, dropping gorgeous new guitars left and right—both electric and acoustic. Their dominance as the leading premium guitar manufacturer is pretty much undisputable at this point—I mean, they make both the Les Paul and the J-45. Not many brands can make claims like that.
And Bozeman’s got even more in store for us today, this time in the form of the new Acoustic Specials collection. This collection features a J-45 Special, a Hummingbird Special, and a L-00 Special. Now, Gibson guitars in general are pretty damn special if you ask me—so what’s “special” about this series?
Well, let’s just say, if you’ve been holding out to spring for a Gibson acoustic, It’s your lucky day. Because Gibson has finally made their most popular acoustics available at a waaayy more accessible price point than we’re used to seeing—and, if I’m being honest, I can’t see where they made any cuts in build quality and materials.
Robi Johns, Sr. Product Development Manager at Gibson Acoustic, had this to say in announcing the new line: "The Gibson Acoustic Specials arrive in a package that’s simply perfect for songwriting and rehearsing, as well as superior for home recording and live performance.”
Superior, indeed: the Acoustic Specials guitars are handcrafted in Gibson’s Bozeman, Montana factory by Gibson’s acclaimed acoustic luthiers. They feature solid tonewoods—Sitka Spruce tops and solid mahogany back and sides. Traditional scalloped x-bracing. Nitrocellulose lacquer finishes that will age freaking beautifully. Classic neck profiles. Grover tuners. These are pure Gibson acoustics, through and through. Top it all off with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze undersaddle piezo pickup and active preamp? Come on now.

So where are we cutting costs, exactly? As far as I can tell, you get a soft shell case instead of a hard shell case… that’s it? Oh, they have a TUSQ saddle, nut, and bridge pins, instead of the bone you’d find on the Original collection. So, they’re vegan? Necks attached with hot hide glue—scratch that…
Anyway folks, this is your chance to get your hands on a genuine, honest-to-god, Bozeman-crafted Gibson acoustic guitar for under $2000. Needless to say, these aren’t going to be in stock for long. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some guitar shopping to do.
