Wallen has an interesting history with SNL. He was originally going to appear on the show during the height of the pandemic in 2020. However, after video surfaced of him breaking pre-show quarantine–to put it lightly–showrunners canceled his appearances. Months later, they invited him back. He finally made his SNL debut in December 2020. Now, with a pair of new singles available across streaming platforms and an album on the way, he’s heading back to the show.

Earlier this week, Saturday Night Live shared a handful of promos featuring Wallen, Madison, and cast member Chloe Fineman. It is clear that the promo spots were supposed to be awkward. However, some fans seemingly didn’t realize that.

Fans React to Morgan Wallen Saturday Night Live Promos

The video above contains several short promos for the forthcoming episode. Throughout the clips, Mike Madison and Chloe Fineman banter and joke while Morgan Wallen stands quietly, offering very little input. Fans took to the comment section to point out how awkward the trio is.

“Morgan Wallen is doing a great job of looking as disinterested as possible at two attractive women dancing so close to him,” one commenter pointed out.

“Morgan is giving me when my girlfriend is talking to one of her friends I don’t know,” another wrote.

“These are never not cringe and I’m here for it,” a fan who “gets it” commented.

Another fan found the humor in Wallen’s awkward silence. “Morgan’s face the whole time is sending me,” they commented.

Several fans voiced their displeasure with Saturday Night Live for inviting Wallen back as a musical guest. However, there were plenty of fans in the comments who were excited to learn they’d get the chance to see the “Sand in My Boots” singer perform this weekend. Multiple fans commented variations of “I’m only watching for Morgan Wallen.”

Saturday Night Live airs tomorrow night at 11:30 Eastern Time on NBC.
