Billy Idol Shares New Song off Upcoming Album ‘Dream Into It’ Featuring Avril Lavigne

While gaining fame during the 1970s with the punk rock band Generation X, Billy Idol eventually turned his attention to a solo career. Appearing to lead the Second British Invasion in America, the singer released hit albums like Rebel Yell, Whiplash Smiles, and Devil’s Playground. His last album to hit shelves was back in 2014 with Kings & Queens of the Underground in 2014. With over a decade passing since Idol released new music, the singer recently announced his Dream Into It album, which is set to release on April 25th. And wanting to promote the new album, Idol revealed the new song “77” featuring Avril Lavigne.

Gaining popularity during the 1970s, Lavigne wasn’t even born when Idol first took the stage. She didn’t become a household name until the early 2000s. Although decades separated their careers in music, both Idol and Lavigne found common ground on the new song “77.” Speaking about working with Lavigne, the singer insisted, “It came out really fantastic. She’s incredible, and the song just came alive. It was already good with me on it, but it got three times better with her on it.”

Barely spending an hour on the internet, the song already caught the attention of Lavigne fans who commented, “Love the collaboration, music, lyrics, animation, everything is perfect! Thank you so much for this!” Another person added, “Sounds good song, Idol is a legend that still speaks punk rock youth vibes!! Amazing!”

Billy Idol Making The Most Out Of 2025

Just a sample of what fans should expect on the Dream Into It album, Idol continued to promote his newest work, telling UCR, “The album is a little bit about the story of my life, almost in chronological order. That’s how we’ve even done the track listing. We didn’t do it like that in the old days. You always did it [with] a hit single first and the second single second. But this [album] is telling a story, that’s the story of my life. Really, that’s what Dream Into It is about.”

Outside of his time in the studio, 2025 marked a massive year for Idol. Not long after the new album dropped, Idol will kick off his North American tour alongside Joan Jett. And in June, the Tribeca Film Festival will premiere the singer’s newest documentary, Billy Idol Should Be Dead

If that wasn’t enough work for 2025, Idol also awaited to hear if he made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Part of the 2025 class of nominees, the legendary singer found himself standing alongside singers like Cyndi Lauper.
