According to Kiwanuka’s recent Instagram story posted yesterday, the “Cold Little Heart” hitmaker has been suffering from an unspecified illness for quite some time. He has been advised by doctors not to perform.
“We are so sorry to announce that due to continued illnes, and on the advice of doctors, Michael will sadly be unable to perform at the rest of his scheduled festival performances throughout the rest of the summer and the shows in North American in October (including the support tour with Mumford & Sons),” the Instagram story reads. “We know this is disappointing news to hear, and nobody is more disappointed and saddened than Michael to no longer be taking to the stage as planned. Love and thanks to everyone for their understanding.”
Michael Kiwanuka’s Health Issues Have Led to Several UK, Europe, and US Tour Date Cancelations
Those above-mentioned cancelled dates in question include festival sets at Ireland’s All Together Now Fest and Sziget Festival in Hungary. Kiwanuka was also scheduled to perform at Pukkelpop Fest in Belgium and the UK music festivals Victorious and We Out Here. Michael Kiwanuka was scheduled to open for Mumford & Sons this October during their North American tour. He will now be unable to make an appearance. Kiwanuka began touring across the UK and Europe for a headlining trek in February.
It’s unclear if the cancelled tour dates will be rescheduled in the future. It’s also unclear what exactly is ailing Kiwanuka, and it’s clear he would prefer privacy. In the past, Kiwanuka has discussed his long battle with anxiety and mental health issues. Though, his current illness likely does not relate to those struggles and might be a physical illness.
Fortunately, Michael Kiwanuka has some pretty dedicated and understanding fans. In his most recent Instagram page post from about two weeks ago, fans have been pouring in comments full of well-wishes and love.
“I’m praying for your recovery, Michael!” said one fan. “I hope you’re 100% soon!”
Another fan said, “I wish for your recovery. I wish for you to be on stage again, one day. Let it be that way.”
“Praying for you brother,” said another fan. “Take your time and heal well.”
Michael Kiwanuka’s most recent record, Small Changes, dropped back in November of 2024. Hopefully, he will recover quickly and be able to continue promoting the critically acclaimed work.
