Here’s Every Person Who Has Been a Coach on ‘The Voice’

The Voice has always had star power. The singing competition series began in 2011 with Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and CeeLo Green as coaches. Over the years, the show has tapped hitmaker after hitmaker to advise hopefuls on their Voice journey.

Blake Shelton

The longest-serving coach in the history of The Voice, Blake Shelton, is the name most associated with the show. He was an OG coach, joining in season 1 in 2011 and staying through season 23 in 2023. Shelton is the most winning coach ever, having come up on top in nine seasons.

Adam Levine

A member of the original four coaches, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine served in the role for the show’s first 16 seasons, winning three times. He returned to great fanfare in season 27, which aired in 2025. Levine is slated to be back once again for season 29 in Spring 2026.

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera brought major star power when she signed on to be one of the show’s first-ever coaches. She stayed in the role for the first three seasons, and then returned for seasons 5, 8, and 10, as well. Aguilera, who won the show one time in season 10, also served as a part-time advisor during season 7.

CeeLo Green

Gnarls Barkley’s CeeLo Green had the shortest tenure of the four original coaches. He stayed on the show for its first three seasons. After taking a break in season 4, he returned for his last time in the coach’s chair the following season. Green, who never won the series, did serve as a part-time advisor on seasons 8 and 15. He’s also slated to return for season 29 in Spring 2026. Green will have a brand new role this go around, where he’ll be making some big decisions during the Knockouts.

Shakira

Shakira joined The Voice in season 4 and returned for her sophomore venture in season 6. The singer didn’t win either the competition in either of the years that she coached, but has spoken highly about her time on the show.

Usher

Usher had a two-season tenure as a coach on The Voice; he was the runner-up during season 4 and won the show’s sixth season. He returned as a part-time advisor three times, most recently for season 19 in 2020.

Gwen Stefani

No Doubt’s frontwoman owes a lot to The Voice, as she met and fell in love with her now-husband, Blake Shelton, while serving as a coach. Gwen Stefani joined the series in 2014 for season 7, and proceeded to serve as a coach seven more times over the years, most recently in 2024. Stefani, who was a part-time advisor on season 10, won the show’s 10th season.

Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams made his Voice debut as a part-time advisor for season 4. He landed the full-time coaching gig in season 7 and stayed in that role through season 10. Williams one the show one time, coming out victorious in season 8.

Miley Cyrus

A part-time advisor on season 10, Miley Cyrus made her full-time coaching debut on season 11. She returned in season 13, but was never able to win the series.

Alicia Keys

Season 7 marked Alicia Keys’ first time on The Voice, when she served in the role of a part-time advisor. The singer got the full-time gig four seasons later and served as a coach for a total of three seasons, winning the show one time in season 12.

Jennifer Hudson

An American Idol alum, Jennifer Hudson jumped ship to The Voice to serve as a part-time advisor in season 3. It wasn’t until many years later, for The Voice‘s 13th season, that Hudson served as a coach on the show. She returned for season 15, but did not manage to win either season on which she appeared.

Kelly Clarkson

After winning American Idol‘s first-ever season, Kelly Clarkson switched competition shows. She was a part-time advisor on The Voice second and 13th seasons, but joined in a full-time capacity for season 14. She stayed on through season 20 and rejoined for the show’s 22nd season. Clarkson, who, with four victories, is the second-winningest coach in the show’s history, is slated to return to the series for season 29, which will air in Spring 2026.

John Legend

Initially a part-time advisor, John Legend joined The Voice as a coach for season 16. He’s competed on nine seasons total, and is gearing up for a big return in season 29, which will air in Spring 2026. With one win under his belt, Legend will be looking to come out on top upon his return.

Nick Jonas

Nick Jonas appeared on The Voice three times over the years. He was a part-time advisor for season 8, and sat in the coach’s chair on seasons 18 and 20. Jonas never won during his tenure, and his best finish was third place in season 18.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande was a one-hit wonder on The Voice, appearing only on season 21. The singer didn’t win during her sole season. In fact, she didn’t even rank in the Top 5.

Camilla Cabello

Camila Cabello twice appeared on The Voice, first as a part-time advisor for season 21 and then as a coach the following season. Cabello finished in third place during her one and only season as a coach.

Chance the Rapper

Chance The Rapper appeared on The Voice three seasons in a row. He served as a coach on seasons 23 and 25, and as a part-time advisor in between. Chance The Rapper’s fourth-place finish in season 23 was his best result.

Niall Horan

One Direction alum Niall Horan came onto The Voice for its 23rd season. He returned the following year and is slated to be back once again for season 28, which will premiere in September 2025. His fellow coaches face some big competition, as Horan has won both seasons in which he’s competed.

Reba McEntire

Country queen Reba McEntire appeared on The Voice as a part-time advisor three times, beginning in the show’s debut season. She finally got to take a seat in the coach’s chair in season 24, and stayed in that position through season 26. After a one-season break, McEntire, a one-time winner, will return for season 28 in September 2025.

Dan + Shay

Country duo Dan + Shay remain The Voice‘s only pair to share a chair. After serving as both a part-time advisor and a part-time coach, the duo landed the full-time gig for season 25. They finished in fifth place in their sole season.

Michael Bublé

Years after he served as a part-time advisor on The Voice‘s third season, Michael Bublé became a coach on the show. He won both seasons 26 and 27, and is slated to return for season 28 in September 2025.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg delighted Voice viewers as a part-time advisor in season 20. He went on to compete as a coach in season 26, finishing in fifth place. Snoop will return in season 28 in September 2025 when he’ll once again vie for The Voice crown.

Kelsea Ballerini

Kelsea Ballerini has been in the world of The Voice for years. She twice served as a part-time coach and once as a part-time advisor, before getting her seat in the coach’s chair for season 27. Ballerini was the runner-up during her sole season, losing to a Team Bublé competitor.
