‘American Idol’ Finalist References His Arrest in New Song

Two years after nearly winning American Idol, country-rocker Colin Stough found himself in the news again. In February, Tennessee police arrested the 20-year-old singer-songwriter from tiny Gattman, Mississippi, on suspected drunk driving charges. Now, Stough is apparently addressing the incident in a new song out May 2.

Colin Stough Teases New Song, “White Trash”

Since finishing third on season 21 of American Idol, Colin Stough has released two EPs, 2023’s Promiseland and last year’s Lookin’ For Home. Earlier this year, he began teasing a new song, “White Trash,” on social media. In the latest sneak peek posted to his Instagram, Stough seems to directly reference his February arrest.

Sporting a printed shirt and white cowboy hat, he leans against a red pickup truck as he sings in his signature gravelly tone, I went to jail on a Sunday / When I was supposed to be at church / Got let out on a Monday / Yeah, I was a little late to work.

His voice grows more defiant (and raspy) as he continues singing. Yeah, I could use some education / My soul could use some savin’ / And now there ain’t no sense in praying for me, I ain’t changin’ my ways.

In his caption, Stough indicated that the new song is coming soon. “We’re one week away from yall people being able to stream the sh*t out of this song,” he wrote in the caption.

In a previous clip of the same verse, Stough wrote that the song is coming out next Friday (May 2.)
