‘American Idol’ Winner Suffers Multiple Family Deaths in the Span of a Few Hours: “My Heart Is Absolutely Broken”

Just last year, Scotty McCreery celebrated the release of his latest album, Rise & Fall. Marking his first album in nearly three years, the singer also crossed another major milestone when inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. Fashioning a career in country music, few moments compared to entering the Opry. Having come a long way since he won the tenth season of American Idol, McCreery recently shared the heartbreaking news that two deaths on the same day rocked his family.

On Wednesday, McCreery learned that his grandmother, Janet, sadly passed away. While trying to process the loss, only a few hours later, he learned that his other grandmother, Paquita, also passed away. Losing two grandmothers within a few hours completely rocked McCreery’s world. With the family mourning the death of their loved ones, the country singer shared a picture of them on his Instagram page. 

Sharing his thoughts in the caption, McCreery admitted, “My heart is absolutely broken. Yesterday, both my Grandma Janet and my Grandma Paquita passed away. I think I am still in a bit of shock as I type this, but I’m choosing to remember the great memories we all made with both of them.”

Scotty McCreery Recalls Learning About Love From His Grandmothers

Showing just how great his grandmothers were, McCreery insisted, “There really are too many to count. From being on the farm in Elizabeth City or visiting the Outer Banks with Grandma Janet.. And then the incredible memories we made at the backyard pool in Pinehurst, all the way to visiting Puerto Rico with Grandma Paquita.”

Outside of McCreery having more than a few memories with his grandmothers, they also taught him a great deal about life. “Both of them truly taught me what love is all about. I will miss them dearly. If yall could keep my family in your prayers I’d appreciate it.”

Asking for prayers, thousands of fans shared their love and support for McCreery and his family during the difficult time. “Praying for all of your family. I’m so sorry, Scotty, that is an unfathomable loss in one day. Sending all my love to you & your wonderful family!”
