Billy Joel Sparks Concern With Onstage Fall, But Quickly Recovers

After nearly six decades in the music industry, Billy Joel is still going strong. The “Piano Man” has a packed 2025 schedule, including co-headlining concerts with Sting, Rod Stewart, and Stevie Nicks. And despite taking a concerning fall during a recent concert, the 75-year-old icon proved he can still bounce back.

Billy Joel Stumbles Onstage in Connecticut

On Feb. 22, Billy Joel returned to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, for his first show at the venue since his 2008 residency. At one point during the concert, the five-time Grammy winner began rocking out to his 1980 hit “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.”

Twirling his microphone stand and tossing it toward the audience, Joel appeared to stumble and fall backward. He landed on his side, drawing cries of concern from the crowd.

However, the “Vienna” singer was able to reposition himself on his back. Then he got back to his feet, the audience erupting in applause, and played another song.

A fan captured the footage and shared it to TikTok, where it quickly made the rounds on social media. “Billy, ‘you had to be a Big Shot didn’t you? Had to prove it to the crowd,’” one fan joked.

Another commented, “dude take care man some of us like your music.”

Making History This Summer

Billy Joel kicks off his summer tour March 15 in Toronto, Ontario. During that tour, the “Uptown Girl” will hit all three New York City-area sports stadiums—making him the first artist to ever do so in one summer.

Joel will play Yankee Stadium in the Bronx on July 18; Metlife Stadium, home to the New York Giants and New York Jets, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Aug. 8; and Citi Field, home to the New York Mets, in Queens on Aug. 21.

Rod Stewart joins him at the July 18 show, followed by Stevie Nicks on Aug. 8 and Sting on Aug. 21.

“I’m looking forward to playing these iconic stadiums this summer — each holds personal significance to me,” Joel told Billboard. “There’s nothing like the energy of the crowds in New York, and sharing a stage with my friends, Rod Stewart, Sting and Stevie Nicks, whose music always inspires me, is extremely rewarding.”
