Carly Pearce Recalls Being Dismissed by Doctors
After telling the interviewer that she was feeling much better lately, Carly Pearce shared some important advice with viewers and fans. “I think my biggest piece of advice for anybody is listen to your body and be your own advocate,” she said. “A lot of doctors dismissed me, and I was persistent until I got a diagnosis.”
For Pearce, advocating for herself when dealing with doctors was important. According to MedStar Health, pericarditis can cause serious chest pain and pericardial effusion, which is excess fluid buildup that puts pressure on the heart. This condition can cause the heart to be constricted and not work as well as it should.
Pericarditis comes in several forms, according to the Mayo Clinic. Acute pericarditis comes on suddenly but goes away within four weeks. Incessant pericarditis lasts between four weeks and three months. If symptoms persist longer than three months, it is called chronic pericarditis. Pearce, like roughly 15-30% of people with the disease, has recurrent pericarditis. This means that her symptoms can return at any time.
Fortunately, the “Diamondback” singer received a proper diagnosis and treatment for her condition. However, she’s not stopping there. She revealed that she is actively working to prevent future flare-ups. “I’m still just kind of on a health journey in general, just to continue to hope that this recurrent pericarditis isn’t recurrent,” she revealed.
