Check Out John Fogerty’s New Versions of Two Classic 1970 CCR Songs from His Forthcoming Solo Album, ‘Legacy’

John Fogerty has debuted two more advance tracks from his forthcoming album Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years, which will be released on August 22. As previously reported, the album features updated versions of 20 classic Creedence Clearwater Revival tunes written by Fogerty.

The newly released songs are renditions of the 1970 hits “Travelin’ Band” and “Long as I Can See the Light.”

Fogerty noted that recording vocals again for the Little Richard-inspired rock ‘n’ roll tune “Travelin’ Band” was a bit challenging.

“That was like climbing a mountain,” the 80-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer admitted. “I had to work myself up to hit that level again. I’d sing until I didn’t have anything left.”

As for his updated take “Long as I Can See the Light,” John suggested that his extra life experience helped him bring added emotion to the ballad.

“There’s a long trail behind my lyrics,” Fogerty said. “And I think you can hear that in the way I sing it now. This song means so much to me. If you see a ray of light you can always find your way. I loved recording it with my sons.”

The tracks are available now via digital download and streaming. A new lyric video for the updated “Travelin’ Band” also has premiered at John’s official YouTube channel. The video features footage from recent live performances as well as archival clips of Fogerty from the CCR days.

Moe About the Legacy Album

Fogerty recorded Legacy with his sons Shane and Tyler, who also are longtime members of his touring band. A variety of respected session musicians also contributed to the project, including drummer Matt Chamberlain, keyboardist Bob Malone, bassist Bob Glaub, and sax player Rob Stone.

The album was co-produced by John and his son Shane, and was mixed by legendary engineer Bob Clearmountain.

Fogerty first announced details of Legacy during a concert celebrating his 80th birthday in April at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

“I’m 80 years old,” Fogerty said in a statement. “I’m giving myself a gift with this album—and I’m giving my fans a gift at the same time.”

“Travelin’ Band” and “Long as I Can See the Light” will be the last tracks released from Legacy in advance of the album’s arrival. The other songs from record that already are available via digital formats are “Born on the Bayou,” “Lodi,” “Up Around the Bend,” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” and “Porterville.”

Legacy can be pre-ordered now.
