Country Singer Cancels Tulsa Show After Suspected Drunk Driver Plows into Her Trailer

Kicking off her country music career in 2006, Sunny Sweeney scored three Top 40 hits with her 2011 sophomore album Concrete. Now gearing up to release her sixth studio album later this summer, the Longview, Texas-born artist is hitting the road. Unfortunately, an alleged drunk driver has temporarily derailed Sweeney’s tour.

Sunny Sweeney’s Equipment Trailer Totaled After Wreck

Taking to Instagram Friday (June 13), the “From A Table Away” singer, 48, shared a photo of her equipment trailer next to a white vehicle lying on its side.

“Our tour has been interrupted by a woman choosing to drive drunk and plow into our trailer last night, totaling our trailer out,” Sunny Sweeney wrote in the caption.

According to Sweeney, the collision happened after a Thursday (June 12) gig in Newport, Kentucky. She and her band managed to drive “on what we think is a bent frame” to their next show in Illinois. However, the ACM-nominated artist had to scrap Sunday’s (June 15) date in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“The van has a huge hole in the back where the trailer went and pierced the whole back door so now we have huge hole in the back of van and bumper is broken off and the sensors aren’t working,” Sweeney wrote. She added, “Unfortunately, driving 8 hours there and 10 home to play Tulsa just isn’t gonna be able to happen. I’m so sorry…  I just don’t have any more options but to go home and get this taken care of Monday morning.”

According to her tour calendar, the “Married Alone” singer will play next on June 25 at City Winery in Atlanta.

She Has a New Album Coming Soon

Sunny Sweeney recently announced the follow-up to 2022’s Married Alone. She will release her sixth album, Rhinestone Requiem, on Aug. 1.

Recently, Sweeney provided some insight into the album’s lead single, “Diamonds and Divorce Decrees.” She says she was inspired to write the song after storing some of her belongings at her parents’ house while between homes herself.

When she finally bought a house, Sweeney moved everything in except for a small safe.

“[My mom] kept saying, come get your stuff; it’s in our way. So, after I jokingly told her to put a lamp on it and make it a table, I said, ‘All that’s in there anyway is grandma’s diamonds and my divorce decrees,’” she said. “My country songwriter brain kicked on, and I was like, wait…what? I have to write that.”
