Dave Grohl Surprises L.A. School Benefit Fundraiser With Cover of Queen & David Bowie’s “Under Pressure”

Looking over the last year, the Foo Fighters released their latest album, But Here We Are, in 2023 and helmed the Everything or Nothing at All Tour in 2024. Although 2025 kicked off nearly five months ago, Dave Grohl’s schedule has been somewhat wide open. With no performances announced, fans might be worried about the musician if he wasn’t popping up almost everywhere. Making a surprise appearance at Coachella, Grohl also performed at the FireAid benefit concert. And recently, the musician once again surprised fans when he took the stage for a show in Avalon Hollywood.

For those at the Oakwood School, they received a special treat when Grohl surprised them at a benefit event. He didn’t come alone as he brought John Lousteau, Wiley Hodgden, and Rami Jaffee with him.  When it came to the setlist, Grohl performed LCD Soundsystem’s “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House”, The Knack’s “My Sharona”, and Queen and Bowie’s “Under Pressure.” And to end the performance, Grohl welcomed Lisa Loeb to the stage to sing another Bowie classic “Moonage Daydream.”

Dave Grohl Recalls Struggling After Kurt Cobain’s Death

While never losing his love for music, Grohl once performed alongside his late friend Kurt Cobain in Nirvana. Any music lovers knows the sad tale of Nirvana and Cobain. But for Grohl, he had a front row seat to the devastation that followed Cobain’s death. He once told the BBC, “I didn’t really have a plan. When everything’s sort of turned upside down and shaken up like that, you just wake up every day thinking, ‘Who am I, where am I, what am I doing?’”

Having discussed their friendship, fame, and life with Nirvana numerous times, Grohl once took a different approach with speaking with Rolling Stone. Remembering what it was like to simply live with the singer, Grohl revealed, “Living with Kurt was funny. He isolated himself in a lot of ways, emotionally. But he had a genuine, sweet nature. He never intentionally made you feel uncomfortable. Living with him in that tiny apartment in Olympia, Washington, there was some sort of bond.”

While Cobain passed away over three decades ago, Grohl continued to hold that bond close as his friend was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and listed as one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
