Megan Moroney, Randy Houser, and the guys all took the stage throughout the night. However, the highlight came with Ernest and Nelson performed together, singing “A Penny Short.”

The performance marked the song’s debut and got fans excited about what’s to come from the pair. Ernest gave fans more to celebrate after the onstage moment when he shared additional information on Instagram.

“Played a new one with @lukasnelsonofficial tonight at the @opry! #APennyShort,” he captioned a video of the performance. “Side note: We’ve recorded this.”

In addition to posting about the new song, Ernest shared a birthday post for the evening’s honoree.

“Happy birthday @jameyjohnsonofficial,” he wrote. “I love knowing ya and I’ll sing any song with you anytime ! Loved getting to spend last night at the Opry with u and all the folks. It’s STILL a TOBY KEITH SUMMER”

Ernest and Lukas Nelson Are Both Busier Than Ever

Ernest has been busy as of late. He released his latest album, Nashville, Tennessee, last year. The singer is also currently on the road with Old Dominion for their How Good Is That: World Tour.

As for Nelson, Willie Nelson’s son released his debut solo album, American Romance, last month. In an interview on the God’s Country podcast, Nelson revealed the biggest lesson he’s learned throughout his life.

”A lot of people that I see out there, I think they feel like, ‘In order to do this music thing, I gotta act like the icons that came before me, otherwise it’s not real,’” Nelson said. “What’s more authentic to me is like, ‘Do I have to be f**ked up to be a musician?’ No.”

“Most of the songs I ever wrote were in moments of clarity and epiphany,” he added. “They were in moments where I got through what I was going through, and I was clear enough to put it into thought.”
