For starters, the documentary was directed by David Tedeschi and produced by famed filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Known for films like Gangs of New York ,The Aviator, and Goodfellas, Beatles ‘64 doesn’t revolve around the Mafia or some heinous crime. Instead, the footage takes a deep dive into what it was like for the Beatles to travel to America for the first time. Not only that, but during their trip to America, the band produced their legendary performance on The Ed Sullivan Show

Excited about sharing the new film with fans of the Beatles, Tedeschi sat down with USA Today to discuss the film. When asked what fans should expect from the documentary, the director promised an in-depth look into the band during their time in America, which featured some scenes of them causing mischief on a train in New York. “I think this is who they were. They have a lot of energy, and being in the United States was their dream. It’s a joke at the press conference when they ask George (Harrison), ‘What are your ambitions?’ And he says, ‘To come to America.’ But it’s also true.”

The Director’s Favorite Moment In New Documentary About The Beatles

While promoting the entire film, Tedeschi revealed one of his favorite moments of Beatles ‘64. “When they’re going to rehearsal and the crowd of young women comes toward them. They don’t know whether they’re going to be able to get out of the car, and you see literally hundreds of people running alongside the car. And the performance in Washington was a revelation. It was like the footage grabbed me by the neck and brought me into 1964, and I got a real feeling of what The Beatles were like as a live band.”

Besides taking fans on a trip into the past, Beatles ‘64 will also feature new interviews from stars like Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Scorsese even received a special tour of Starr’s Beatles wardrobe. Don’t miss Beatles ‘64, premiering Friday, November 29th on Disney+.
