Founding Member of Famed 90s Girl Group Reveals She’s Been Homeless for 3 Years, Living in Her Car

“You guys, for the past three years, I have been living in my car,” Robinson said, before expressing with a sigh, “I said it, oh my gosh, it’s out.”

In the video, Robinson explained that she’d been living with her parents in Las Vegas in 2020, but eventually decided to move out. After her former manager suggested to relocate to Los Angeles, she decided to do just that. Robinson was going to stay with him for a bit, but that didn’t come to fruition.

Instead, Robinson lived in a hotel for eight months. Finding an apartment proved difficult, largely because Robinson’s one-time manager was allegedly “playing games” with her in an attempt to “trap” her and keep her “vulnerable and depending” on him.

She soon began looking in looking into “car life” and fell in love with the concept.

“I felt free,” she said of packing up her car and heading for Malibu. “I felt like I was on a camping trip. It just felt like it was the right thing to do.”

The situation, Robinson said, has not left her feeling like “woe is me,” rather she said that she is “absolutely” glad she set off on this journey.

“I’m learning about who I am. I’m learning myself as a person, as a woman,” she said. “I miss my family. I miss everyone I was connected to. But I needed to do this alone… I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished out here.”

In the video’s caption, Robinson, who was a founding member of the GRAMMY-nominated En Vogue in 1989, reflected on sharing her news with the world.

“Sometimes in life, we end up in situations that we weren’t expecting,” she wrote. “There’s something we need to learn or teach but we’re too afraid to push ourselves out of our comfort zones to do it so the universe does it for us! During this growth period, we either learn to trust ourselves or give in to fear and fail.”

“I took a risk and jumped head first into car life and WOW, what a crazy, fun, sometimes scary ride it’s been lol! For me, failure is NOT an option,” Robinson added. “Being vulnerable sucks but here I GROW.”
