As the death toll from the Texas flood exceeded 130 people, families continued to process the devastation, which left many of them homeless. For others, they navigated not only the damage but the loss of life. While footage of the flood circulated on the internet, George Strait looked to help those in need by putting on the Strait to the Heart benefit concert. With proceeds going to help those impacted by the flood, the event featured several hit singers like Riley Green. But apparently, Strait had a few surprises up his sleeve as Garth Brooks shocked the audience with a special performance.

Having promoted the benefit concert over the last few weeks, many who purchased a ticket expected to see Strait, Green, Dean Dillon, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, and several others. According to reports, only 1,000 tickets were sold. And the reasoning might surround the fact that the tickets started at $1,000. Although a hefty price to pay, the proceeds went to a good cause.
While a smaller setting than a normal Strait concert, the country star produced a memorable night. For one fan, who shared several videos of the concert, she insisted, “It felt so good to be able to actively do something to support the hill country flood victims (and have a great evening out as well). The event organizers had so many good surprises because so many people wanted to help: George Strait was, of course, amazing.”

Texas Senator Gets Groovy At George Strait Concert
As for Brooks, he took the stage with only a guitar to offer fans a cover of his classic song “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old).” The song first hit the airwaves back in March 1989 when featured on the singer’s self-titled debut album. The hit, written by Brooks and Randy Taylor, surrounded a rodeo cowboy who struggled with the stress of being away from home while having little strength to continue on.
Outside of fans, it seemed that Senator Ted Cruz and Governor Greg Abbott attended the concert. One person even recorded Cruz jumping at the chance to dance with his wife. Not great for Cruz, but some weren’t impressed with his dance moves, writing, “I am a terrible dancer. I dance better than him.”
Still, no matter the performers, guests, or setlist, Strait used his stardom to help those who needed it the most.
