Sometimes, you just gotta know when to call it quits. A vocal cord hemorrhage is no casual, easy-fix injury. Such an injury occurs when blood vessels in the vocal cords rupture. That can cause bleeding and lasting damage if not treated immediately. Sadly, it looks like English singer/songwriter Sam Fender will have to cancel a number of European festival dates in the next month, following his own close brush with a serious vocal cord injury.

Yesterday, Fender revealed that he will have to pull out of several festival dates after suffering a vocal cord hemorrhage. The “Homesick” hitmaker told his fans that after an appointment with a doctor earlier in the week, he was told his vocal cords were “swollen.” Later, he struggled to perform during his big headlining gig at Silverstone.
Following a recent check-up, doctors told Fender that he had suffered a vocal cord hemorrhage. He has been advised by medical professionals not to sing for about two weeks.
This isn’t the first time Fender has gone a little too hard on his voice. In 2024, the singer had to cancel several gigs in Glasgow and Newcastle following a similar injury.
Sam Fender Pulls Out of Two Weeks Worth of Festival Appearances
“Hey everyone, at the beginning of the week I got my voice checked by my ENT doctor and the cords were slightly swollen,” said Fender in a since-expired Instagram Stories announcement. “I’ve just been checked by my ENT again today, as I was concerned about it, and it’s transpired that I’ve had a haemorrhage on one of my vocal cords. I’ve been advised to be on vocal restriction and to not sing for the next 14 days.”
He went on to say that if performed at the upcoming shows, he would risk “lasting damage” to his vocal cords. As a result, Fender will not be performing at several upcoming festivals. Some of those festivals include Rock Werchter, NOS Alive, Down The Rabbit Hole, and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Sam Fender went on to apologize to his fans who had bought tickets to see him.
“I hate letting people down and I hate not being able to sing for weeks as it is my only real passion in life,” said Fender.
The singer noted that he will try to “make it up” to his fans in the future. He also noted that he was going to “work to get this voice fixed.”
