Jason Aldean Responds to 13-Year-Old Cancer Patient Asking for Help

Earlier this week, a teenager battling brain and spinal cancer requested help from country superstar Jason Aldean in raising money for kids like him. Thanks to Darius Rucker, the “Big Green Tractor” singer is looking to make it happen.

Diagnosed in 2018 at age 6, Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel put out the call to the Grammy nominee in a video posted to social media. “Hey, does anybody know Jason Aldean? Because we’re trying to do a country show to raise money for kids with cancer,” the 13-year-old said.

Getting wind of DJ’s request, the “Wagon Wheel” crooner filmed a video of his own. “Hey DJ, what’s up? It’s Darius Rucker,” says the Hootie and the Blowfish frontman. “Guess what? I heard you. I know Jason Aldean.”

Rucker gestures as Aldean enters the frame. “Hey, what’s up, DJ? Jason Aldean here,” said the “Try That in a Small Town” hitmaker. “Got your message and want to get you out to a show. Let’s talk more about doing a show or doing something to help the kids like you were talking about. We’ll be in touch, my man.”

Jason Aldean Fans Praise Him For Response to Teen Cancer Patient

After Jason Aldean shared the post to X/Twitter on Thursday (June 5), fans began praising the country star’s response. “You’re a hero in my book! Both of you!” one wrote. “Anyone that helps this brave, kind and loving little man gets all the kudos in the world from me! Love your music & will blare it everywhere I go!”

DJ Daniel gained national attention when the U.S. Secret Service swore him in as an honorary member in March. The Texas teen, who aspires to work in law enforcement, was given just five months to live when he received his cancer diagnosis in 2018.

Five months turned into five years, and DJ is still here seven years later. Unfortunately, however, his father, Theodis Daniel, told an Austin news outlet that his son is now battling three new tumors.

“Just winging it day by day,” Theodis said of his son’s prognosis. He added, “It’s rough, there isn’t a class that can teach you how to deal with it. You’re hearing that your child has a nasty disease.”
