Jesse Malin to Share Life Story and Songs With Limited Run of Theatrical Shows, ‘Silver Manhattan,’ in New York City

Nearly a year after returning to the stage in December of 2024, after suffering a rare spinal stroke in 2023, Jesse Malin is set to deliver a limited run of shows in New York City that will be part music and the other stories of his life, dubbed Silver Manhatttan: A Musical Guide to Survival.

The five Silver Manhattan shows will run on Saturdays at the Gramercy Theatre from September 6 and continue with October 4, November 22, and December 6 before concluding on January 11, 2026.

Presented by Peter Shapiro, Silver Manhattan was written by Jesse Malin, who also co-produced the shows with ArKtype / Tommy Kriegsmann and David Bason and will highlight different times in the New York City singer and songwriter’s life, from growing up in Queens, New York to his entry into music and the hardcore scene in the early ’80s with Heart Attack before forming D Generation and segueing into a solo career.

In a video teaser, Malin calls Silver Manhattan “a play, a story, and a concert performed live on stage with a full band.” He added, “We will be working it up all summer to bring it to you. While I am still recovering, I won’t be touring for a while, so you might have to come to my neighborhood to see me and the boys do this thing.”

Silver Manhattan comes more than two years after Malin suffered a rare spinal cord infarction, or spinal stroke, in May 2023, leaving him unable to walk.

“Where I come from, whenever we’ve gotten lemons, we always found ways to make margaritas,” said Malin in a statement. “I know I won’t be able to tour for a while, so I created a theatrical stage show, a concert—a way to tell this story from New York, near my home. Music has always been the best medicine.”

In October 2024, Malin also released his new single, “Argentina,” a tribute to the country where he received stem cell treatments for six months after his stroke, following initial care in New York City. The single also marked Malin’s first release since his 2024 benefit album Silver Patron Saints: The Songs of Jesse Malin, a triple vinyl benefitting Malin’s Sweet Relief fund, and his previous solo album Sad and Beautiful World in 2021.

Before kicking off the Silver Manhattan run, Malin will also return to London for two shows on May 1 (sold out) and 2 at Islington Assembly Hall, along with special guests Billy Bragg, Peter Perrett, Jamie Perrett, Aaron Lee Tasjan, and more.

“I love the energy you get from the city [New York],” Malin said in the March 2025 issue of American Songwriter. “You’re forced to deal with people from all cultures and forced to find that commonality and get along, and it’s inspiring. There’s a lot in the old Big Apple. I’m initially a Queens boy, but I like to see the world.”

He continued, “That was a great thing, and it still is, about touring. You get to see how small this planet is and how connected we really are.”
