Founding Foreigner guitarist and songwriter Mick Jones revealed in February 2024 that he’d been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease about a decade earlier, explaining that the illness was the reason he’d stopped touring with his famous band in 2023. Now, Jones is preparing to release a new solo charity single to help raise awareness about the disease and funds toward research to find a cure.

The tune, titled “Shelter from the Storm,” will be released in partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and in honor of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, which is observed in April.
The song will be unveiled on Saturday, April 26, during the 2025 edition of the foundation’s annual Parkinson’s Unity Walk. The charity event, which takes place in Central Park in New York City, is described as “a day of community, action, and impact … bringing together thousands of people and families affected by Parkinson’s disease.”
Jones will make an appearance at the event. Fans can donate to the fundraiser, and find out more about Mick’s participation, by visiting MichaelJFox.org.
“I am honored that my friend Michael J. Fox has chosen to unveil ‘Shelter from the Storm’ at the Unity Walk this year,” Jones said in a statement. “Michael has done so much to raise awareness of the terrible debilitating disease that we share. His efforts to bring focus to the need for funds to research and a cure are legendary, and I hope to support him in any way that I can.”
“Shelter from the Storm” will be officially released via streaming services on May 23, and can be pre-saved now.
“Shelter from the Storm” Music Video
Meanwhile, an official music video for “Shelter from the Storm” has been posted unlisted on Foreigner’s YouTube channel. The clip celebrates Jones’ life and long music career. It features photos and film footage spanning from his childhood to the present day.
The video includes film clips capturing him performing with various artists during his early music career, as well as with Foreigner. Jones also is shown working on music in the studio. The video also acknowledges some of the classic Foreigner hits he wrote or co-wrote.
In addition, the clip features a segment reflecting the melodic pop-rock song’s message of helping others in need.
At the end of the video, a message from Jones appears that reads, “Thank you to all the Foreigner fans over the years.” The clip also lists the musicians featured on the track. Jones sang lead and backing vocals, and played bass and electric guitar. The song also features Felix van Dijk on acoustic guitar, Dave Eggar on keyboards, Robert Holmes on lead guitar, Steve Kirkman on electric guitar, and Chuck Palmer on drum programming. Van Dijk, Kirkman, and Mickie Steier also contributed backing vocals.
Interestingly, it was reported this week that Foreigner’s orchestral concerts in Las Vegas in March 2026 will feature arrangements written by Eggar, while the orchestra will be conducted by Palmer.
A note accompanying the video explained that working on “Shelter from the Storm” helped the ailing Jones find “a renewed sense of purpose, a way to reconnect with his artistry, and a moment of normalcy.”
More About Mick Jones
Jones, 80, formed Foreigner in 1976, and has always been the band’s principal songwriter. Although he’s been unable to perform with the group since 2023, he is the only original member who has remained in the band throughout its history.
Mick has written or co-written all of the band’s hits, including “Feels Like the First Time,” “Cold as Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” “Double Vision,” “Head Games,” “Juke Box Hero,” “Urgent,” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
Jones was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Foreigner in 2024. He wasn’t able to attend the ceremony, though, because of his illness.
