Lainey Wilson made waves with her breakout album Bell Bottom Country in 2022. Earlier this year, she followed it up with Whirlwind. She chose the album’s title because it reflects what her life has been like since her 2022 release caught fire and helped make her one of the biggest names in country music. However, while her life has been crazy for the last couple of years when it was time to create her latest album, she was laser-focused.

Wilson appeared on the most recent episode of Artist Friendly with Joel Madden. In the interview that took place earlier this year, she discussed her career and how she’s dealing with the major life changes that come with being a star. Additionally, she shared her mindset going into writing the songs for Whirlwind.
Lainey Wilson Had No Time to Waste While Writing for Whirlwind
When talking about making her most recent album, Lainey Wilson referenced an old saying in the music industry. An artist has their whole life to write their first album and six months to write their second one. Whirlwind was her fourth full-length studio album. Even though it came out two years after Bell Bottom Country, she didn’t have much time to write songs for it. As a result, she had to focus.
“With this [album], I realized there are so many different parts to this job. Everything from brand partnerships, appearances, and so many different things,” Wilson said. “There was not as much time for me to write 300 songs or whatever to get the 12 or 14 that I was doing. So, I really had to get focused,” she added.
Fortunately, Wilson is at a point in her career where she knows if a song is good or not. More importantly, it doesn’t take her long to decide if she wants to share the message of a song with the world or not.
The Louisiana native plans to replicate the focus she employed while working on Whirlwind in future projects. “We don’t have time to waste. I’m kind of getting to the place, once we get back to writing and stuff, I really liked the way we did this record by diving in, knowing what we were trying to do, and everything,” she said.
