As of now, Universal has yet to announce Wilson’s official role. However, she will not be one of the leads, as both of those roles belong to Maika Monroe and Bradley Whitford. The prospective success for the film is looking bright, as the last adaptation of a Hoover novel was Blake Lively’s film, It Ends With Us.

Universal hasn’t released any other major casting details. In addition to casting, Vanessa Caswill will direct and Lauren Levine wrote the script alongside Colleen Hoover. Furthermore, the pair will also produce the film using their production company, Heartbones Entertainment.

Why Lainey Wilson’s Casting Is Not Surprising

This is not Lainey Wilson’s first time acting. Before Wilson was cast in this film, she played a significant part in four episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s hit television show, Yellowstone. Specifically, Lainey Wilson took on the role of Abby, an aspiring country musician and the love interest of Ian Bohen’s character, Ryan. Wilson’s music was also featured in the show, as her song, “Small Town, Girl,” was the finale song of season three.

Secondly, Wilson also already has a relationship with Universal Studios. Wilson’s relationship with Universal comes from her collaboration on the soundtrack of last summer’s hit film, Twisters. Wilson contributed her original song, “Out of Oklahoma,” which helped the soundtrack peak at No. 1 on the Billboard country charts and received a Grammy nomination.

Even if Wilson didn’t have previous film experience, this move still wouldn’t be entirely out of the blue. Other country musicians to make the transition to the silver screen include Kris Kristofferson, Ryan Bingham, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Dwight Yoakam. That being so, Lainey Wilson joins a decorated group of country musicians to make the major career addition.
