“I am both in the state of swoon as are my audience when witnessing my live performance,” said Murphy in a recent press statement. “Trent Reznor cordially accepted my invitation to appear on the song, adding a welcome vibe on the second verse, as well as throughout the entire song in the form of backing vocalizing.”
The song is a surprisingly delightful synth-funk work. “Swoon” (in addition to Murphy’s upcoming album) was beautifully produced by Killing Joke’s bassist Youth.
New Music is Coming From Both Peter Murphy and Trent Reznor in 2025
“Swoon” follows a recent duet that Murphy released with former Culture Club icon Boy George on the song “Let The Dance Flow”. Silver Shade is expected for release on May 9 this year through Metropolis. The album will be Murphy’s first solo release in over a decade. His last release was the 2014 record Lion. As of now, we don’t know much about the details behind Silver Shade.
Trent Reznor has also been busy with new projects. Both Reznor and fellow Nine Inch Nails member Atticus Ross also just recently released The Gorge (Soundtrack From The Apple Original Film). Nine Inch Nails are also expected to produce the score for the new Tron: Ares film. That movie is an upcoming sequel to the 2010 sci-fi film Tron: Legacy. The Gorge was also just released on Apple TV+ yesterday.
Reznor and Ross are also producing music for the Luca Guadagnino film After The Hunt, which is expected to be released in October of this year.
The abundance of soundtrack work isn’t exactly surprising. Both Reznor and Ross recently took home a Golden Globe for Best Original Score via their musical work in the 2024 movie Challengers.
Just as well, Nine Inch Nails will be kicking off a world tour for the first time since 2022. The announcement of the 2025 tour came shortly after some tour details were leaked to the press. Reznor was more or less forced to confirm the upcoming trek.
