Former Police band members Sting and Andy Summers recently reunited for a brand new version of the classic 1983 song “Murder By Numbers”. You might remember the tune as one of the biggest tracks to come out of their 1983 album Synchronicity. In fact, “Murder By Numbers” was a bonus track from that album that has become a bit of a cult classic. Sting and Andy Summers debuted their new version with Grammy Award-winning jazz artist Christian McBride. In fact, the song itself will be the lead single from McBride’s upcoming album Without Further Ado, Vol. 1.

The recent reworking of the song marks the first time in nearly two decades that Sting and Andy Summers have collaborated on something. The last time they worked together was during The Police’s reunion tour in 2008.
I have to say, this is quite the jazzy rendition. The new version of “Murder By Numbers” features Summers on guitar, Sting on vocals, and the whole of The Christian McBride Big Band to tie it all together.
“I am absolutely thrilled to have Sting and Andy Summers, two-thirds of one of the most influential bands in history, The Police, join me for one of their songs,” McBride said proudly in a recent press statement. “Sting continues to evolve gracefully as an artist, and Andy still plays with the sophisticated fire and grit he has always possessed. A huge thank you to both of them, as well as to the remarkable Pedrito Martinez, for bringing that special ‘thang’ that only he can provide.”
You can listen to the reworked version of “Murder By Numbers” featuring Sting, Andy Summers, and Christian McBride via the video clip below. I have to say, Summers’ guitar solo is absolutely killer.
Sting, Andy Summers, and Christian McBride Have Been Quite Busy Lately
Christian McBride’s Without Further Ado, Vol. 1 will be released on August 29th via Mack Avenue Records. The Christian McBride Big Band will perform songs from their upcoming album on August 3 during their Newport Jazz Festival set.
Meanwhile, Sting is currently enjoying the European portion of his Sting 3.0 Tour, with a number of North American dates set to start in November of this year. Andy Summers, likewise, has a string of global live performances set to start in September of this year for The Cracked Lens + A Missing String Tour.
