Longtime Nashville DJ Jeff Hoag Is No Longer With WSM

Nashville radio station WSM has confirmed the departure of longtime DJ Jeff Hoag, who hosted WSM At Night along with the Opry warm-up show.

Responding to comments left on a June 10 Facebook post, WSM wrote, “Jeff is no longer with the station. We are grateful for the years he shared with the WSM listeners and wish him well on his journey. We are committed to keeping classic country on the WSM airwaves at night and will announce our programming plan as it develops.”

Neither WSM nor Hoag have offered any further details on his departure.

Responded one fan, “that makes me so sad! I’ve been wondering what happened to him also, looked forward to hearing him each night he was on and his stories. Nobody plays the greatest songs as he did. Best DJ ever!”

Jeff Hoag Joined WSM in 2014

Moving to Nashville from upstate New York in 2003, Jeff Hoag joined a touring band two years later as their lead guitar/mandolin player and songwriter. The DJ fulfilled “a lifelong dream” when he joined WSM upon his return to Music City in 2014.

Hoag officially stepped into the weeknight position five years ago, replacing the retiring Eddie Stubbs. He had been occasionally filling in for Stubbs since joining WSM. An avid record collector, musician, and songwriter, Hoag offered up a wealth of knowledge for traditional country music listeners. He hosted  WSM At Night with Jeff Hoag from 7 p.m. until midnight every night.

“My dream in life was to work for WSM Radio and keep the tradition of classic country music alive,” he said after taking over the evening slot. “The fact that I get to live my dream and carry out this mission is gratifying beyond words. Thank you for the opportunity to do what I love and to spread the glorious gospel of country music across the world.”

Added WSM Director of Content and Programming J. Patrick Tinnell, “WSM at Night is exactly where Jeff belongs. I along with the rest of his radio family, can’t wait to see how he develops his own live nightly show, while keeping a long-standing tradition of classic country at night on WSM. I know our audience will be as proud of Jeff as I am.”
