Megan Moroney Has This Pop Star at the Top of Her Collab List: “We Would Crush”

Building a mythos with the college-football inspired hit “Tennessee Orange,” Megan Moroney exploded onto the country music scene in late 2022. Her star has only continued to rise as she released two albums and snagged multiple high-profile awards. Contrasting her glitzy sorority-girl aesthetic with devastatingly clever lyricism, the 27-year-old University of Georgia alum has carved out her own niche as country music’s “emo cowgirl.” Recently, Moroney revealed her dream collaborator.

Like the “No Caller ID” singer, sparkly costumes and sad-girl lyrics are part of Olivia Rodrigo’s appeal. So it’s not surprising that the “vampire” songstress, 22, comes immediately to mind when Moroney thinks of potential future duet partners.

“I would imagine that [our song] would lean sad and angry,” she said in an interview with People. “I think we would crush an idea like that.”

Personally, I’m into it. But if you’re looking for something lighter, Moroney’s got you there, too. The CMA Award-winning artist would also love to team up with pop star Tate McRae for a “more fun” project. In fact, we got a glimpse of this last August when Moroney joined the “Greedy” star, 21, onstage in Nashville for a duet of “Tennessee Orange.”

“I’m a fan of them,” Moroney said of Rodrigo and McRae. “I’ve gotten to briefly hang out with both of them, and I think we could come up with something really cool if the opportunity presented itself.”

Megan Moroney Is Working on New Music

A full year hasn’t yet passed since Megan Moroney turned fans’ worlds royal blue with the release of her sophomore album, Am I Okay? And yet, the “Indifferent” singer has been dropping tantalizing hits that new material is on the way, and soon. Most recently, Moroney told People that she is “definitely in the studio working on the next album.”

“I’m giving myself a few more months to write some more songs, but it feels lighter and a little more carefree than my other albums,” she said.

Despite the departure from her trademarked raw vulnerability, Moroney promises that her third album is “more me than ever.” Additionally, her next single, “6 Months Later,” is set to drop next Friday, June 20.
