The scenes of destruction and loss currently playing out in the news are all too familiar for Miley Cyrus. Back in 2018, the pop star’s Malibu home burned to the ground in the Woolsey fire as she filmed Black Mirror in South Africa. Cyrus nodded at the tragedy in her Grammy-winning song, “Flowers:” Built a home and watched it burn. Now, the former Hannah Montana star is reflecting on those painful memories as wildfires once again tear through southern California.

Miley Cyrus: “My Soul Aches” For 2025 California Wildfire Victims

Taking to social media Saturday (Jan. 11), Miley Cyrus shared a photo of her front porch after the Woolsey fire ripped through her Malibu neighborhood in November 2018.

“It’s a feeling you don’t ever forget,” she wrote. “Walking up to the door you would pass through daily, looking forward to being greeted by the ones you love like you always do but instead being met by a pile of ash and rubble.”

She continued, “My soul aches for those who are experiencing this devestation [sic] firsthand and I cry for my city. It’s beyond heartbreaking. Los Angeles represents ‘living the dream’ but the reality today is wreckage and destruction.”

California Has Seen This Before

Back in November 2018, the Woolsey Fire scorched 96,949 acres in Los Angeles County and neighboring Ventura County, killing three people and forcing nearly 300,000 more out of their homes.

Despite seeing her home reduced to ashes, Miley Cyrus wrote on Twitter at the time that she was “one of the lucky ones.”

“My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely & that’s all that matters right now,” she wrote. “My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong.”
