Five years ago, Paris Jackson began following in dad Michael Jackson’s footsteps when she signed a record deal with Republic Records. Releasing her debut album Wilted that same year, the “Let Down” singer, 27, also starred alongside rocker Ozzy Osbourne in the music video for “Crack C*caine,” his song with Billy Morrison and Steve Stevens. Currently, Jackson is gearing up to support Incubus on the alt-rockers Morning View + The Hits Tour in the US and UK, which kicks off later this month. Recently facing backlash regarding the tour’s opening date, Jackson took to social media to defend herself.

Paris Jackson Speaks Out on “Negative Anniversary”
Incubus kicks off their Morning View + The Hits Tour with Manchester Orchestra and Paris Jackson at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on June 25. As many were quick to point out online, June 25 also marks 16 years since Michael Jackson’s death. The “Thriller” legend died in 2009 following cardiac arrest resulting from a propofol and benzodiazepine overdose at age 50.
Apparently, some found it in poor taste that Jackson would take the stage on the anniversary of her father’s death. On Friday (June 13), the singer-actress took to her Instagram Stories to address the criticism.

“So people are mad again. This time, I think, I guess one of the tour dates I’m supposed to be going out on tour with Incubus and Manchester Orchestra happens to be June 25, which is a very negative anniversary for me in my life and for my family,” Jackson said.
She went on to explain that as the opening act, these sorts of decisions are beyond her control. “It’s up to the headliner… I get a stool and a guitar, and I do my thing. That’s it,” Jackson said.
Paris doesn't owe nobody not even a super fan any explanation. not everyone needs to post about loved ones on a constant basis or on birthdays or special days. They are allowed to celebrate in private and in their own way and it doesn't need to be publicized! She had a show last… pic.twitter.com/IWsHQmXUcT

Additionally, the singer pointed out that she pitched herself as part of the tour. “This feels like they’re doing me a favor by bringing me out. So I’m going to tell them, ‘Sorry guys, we can’t perform on this date?’ Jackson said, adding sarcastically, “F— you.”
