Fans watched McEntire have a great time on The Voice for two consecutive seasons. As a result, they might be surprised to learn that she initially didn’t want the role. In fact, she had been saying “no” to the gig since the singing competition show’s debut season.
Recently, McEntire appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to talk about her return to the series. During their conversation she revealed why she originally didn’t want to be a coach on The Voice.
Reba McEntire on Why She Said “No” to The Voice
While talking about The Voice, Seth Meyers asked Reba McEntire if she knew being on the show would be as much fun as it was. “No. No. I was really dreading it at first,” she admitted.
“I don’t want to tell anybody they suck,” McEntire explained. “I passed on it years ago when it first came over from Holland,” she revealed. “I said, ‘I can’t tell somebody, you know, don’t give up your day job.’ I’m not gonna do that,” she added.
Fortunately, McEntire didn’t have to worry about that. Instead, she said, she was able to be a supportive coach for the up-and-coming singers. “The first time I was on The Voice, it was more helpful and encouraging. Everybody that’s coming back now, Snoop, Michael, myself, and Niall, we’re nice people. We encourage. We lift up,” she said.
McEnitre will return to The Voice next season. The move comes after she broke a record by hosting her 18th ACM Awards show. Additionally, her sitcom, Happy’s Place, has been renewed for a second season.
