Death Toll Eclipses 100 as Nearly 200 Remain Missing
Following torrential rains, the Guadalupe River in Central Texas broke its banks July 4, leading to catastrophic flash floods. As of Thursday (July 10), authorities have confirmed at least 120 deaths across six counties, including those of 60 adults and 36 children in Kerr County. As of now, 173 people remain missing, according to NBC News.
Additionally, the deadly floodwaters killed more than two dozen people at Camp Mystic, most of them children. Five campers and one counselor were still missing from the all-girl Christian summer camp as of Wednesday, July 9.
The unthinkable tragedy hits particularly close to home for Robert Earl Keen, whose own daughters attended Camp Mystic as children.
“Our hearts are heavy watching the devastation unfold across the Hill Country—my home. We’re praying for everyone affected,” the “Gringo Honeymoon” singer wrote on X/Twitter. “Camp Mystic means so much to our family—both of our daughters spent summers there. Sending love and strength to all.”
