Luke Combs faced a tough choice during his days at Appalachian State University: join a fraternity for what many would consider the ultimate college experience, or hone his already-impressive singing skills in an a cappella group on campus. Fortunately for country music fans, he chose the latter. Roaring onto the charts in 2016 with his debut single “Hurricane,” the two-time Entertainer of the Year, 35, has built a massively loyal fanbase. Now, he’s considering relying on that fanbase to determine the sound of his next album.

Luke Combs Is Working On New Music
During a recent interview with the podcast Katie & Company, Luke Combs revealed that he has already recorded more than 30 songs for the follow-up to his fifth studio album, 2024’s Fathers & Sons. However, the “Fast Car” crooner is apparently having some difficulty paring them down. So much so that he recently took to social media with a proposition.
“Seriously considering ‘Crowd Sourcing’ my next record,” the Grammy winner wrote Tuesday (Aug. 5.) “Like just put up a bunch of demos and worktapes to see what y’all like best.”

Many fans took the opportunity to weigh in on Combs’ music. “Every stripped down “you and the boys sitting on a couch” version of your songs is a 10000% better than the studio release cut. You should really consider this man,” one X/Twitter user wrote. “The power, soul and emotion of your music gets lost when the sound engineers get their grubby hands on it.”
Not all responses were quite so profound, however. “I first read this as ‘seriously considering crowd surfing,’” former Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt wrote.
“That’d be all good for nobody,” Combs replied.

Why He Doesn’t Want to Do “The Big Album Thing”
Some artists, like Morgan Wallen, don’t concern themselves with quantity, consistently releasing albums with 30 tracks or more. However, Luke Combs is not one of them.
“I don’t know that there’s any plans to do, like, the big album thing. I just don’t know if I love that idea, you know,” he said on Katie & Company. “There’s nothing against it, I mean, obviously it works really well, but I just don’t.”
