Mac Miller’s second posthumous album, Balloonerism, was released yesterday under Warner Records. The neo-soul, psychedelic hip-hop record is already making waves among Miller’s fans and contemporaries. One such contemporary and close friend of Mac Miller is SZA, who posted a heartfelt tribute to the late rapper on X.

SZA just recently dropped her newest release, Lana, which is a deluxe version of her 2022 album SOS. In addition to her own recent release, SZA also happens to be featured on Mac Miller’s Balloonerism. Specifically, SZA is featured on the song “DJ’s Chord Organ” with Thundercat.

SZA’s post about Mac Miller has blocked direct replies, but the post itself has pulled in quite a few comments from fans who share her sentiment about the late rapper.
“If only people had a clue how many artists Mac worked with before they “blew up” its crazy…” said one commenter. “Not saying he found these artists or anything like that… just shows his true ear for music. SZA, Vince staples, Future, Earl, Tyler, Thundercat, Ab Soul, and SO many more…”
“Wow this made me sob i miss mac sm,” said another.
Fans Are Still Mourning The Loss of Mac Miller, Years Later
Mac Miller passed away in 2018 following an accidental drug overdose. When the news first broke of his death, SZA was one of the first of his contemporaries to publicly mourn him.
“You were the first person I met when I moved here,” SZA said in an Instagram post at the time. “U let me come over everyday and be whoever I wanted. Showed up for me in ways I can never express or repay. my gratitude is infinite. I’ll never let you dim in my mind or spirit.”
Mac Miller’s newest posthumous release also features collaborative contributions from artists like Graves, Big Daddy Kane, Anne Dudley, Trevor Horn, and more. Balloonerism follows Circles, Miller’s 2020 record and his first posthumous release. Balloonerism was more or less recorded in 2014, and Miller allegedly wanted to release the album before his death.
“Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing ‘Balloonerism’ was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world,” Miller’s estate said in a recent statement.
