Texas Country Music Singer Helps Raise Over $430,000 for Victims of Texas Flood

With each passing day, the number of fatalities from the flood that ripped through Texas continued to climb. While nearly 200 people remain unaccounted for, the death toll has reached 120 people. As first responders from the National Guard, the FBI, and border patrol continued to search the area, hoping to find survivors, country music singers and celebrities have helped raise funds for those impacted by the flood. And when it came to Texas country singer Josh Weathers, he decided to produce a virtual concert that brought in over $430,000 for the victims and their families.

Like many Americans, Weathers and his wife watched the devastation play out on the news. With videos of daring rescues and the destruction left by the flood remaining in their minds, the couple decided they couldn’t just sit by. Speaking with NBCDFW, Weathers explained how they put together a virtual benefit concert to raise money. “We see destruction and death all over, and when it hit so close to home, it’s just one of those things that rips you apart. Especially when there are so many kids involved. You can’t just sit back and not do anything.”

Josh Weathers Shocked By How Much He Helped Raise

During the concert, fans had several options for donating. They could simply donate a lump sum or bid on items up for auction. For Weathers, he admitted he hoped to raise around $150,000, but was shocked with how much they ended up raising. “I’ll be honest… my ambition – I felt like was a pretty lofty goal – was like $150,000. And I guess I was just thinking too small.”

Although Weather wanted the money to go directly to the families impacted by the flood, he knew it would get to the right hands. “I think food and water is probably going to be pretty handled. What are people gonna need? They’re gonna need money. So let’s just raise as much money as we can, as quickly as we can and give it to these folks.”

Thrilled about the amount they raised, Weathers insisted he couldn’t just sit by. “I’m a Texas artist and Texas means a lot to me. When something this tragic happens, and it hits so close to home, (I’ve got to help). I legitimately know people who have lost loved ones in the flood.”

While first responders continue to work, Officer Jonathan Lamb from the Kerrville Police Department praised their efforts. “They rescued people out of vehicles. They rescued people out of homes that were already flooded, pulling them out of windows.” He added, “I know that this tragedy, as horrific as it is, could have been so much worse.”
