Former President Jimmy Carter passed away Sunday (December 29) at his home in Plains, Georgia at the age of 100. Nobel Peace Prize winner and Habitat for Humanity champion was 100 years old when he passed, making him the longest-living president in United States history. His passing came a little more than a year after his wife, Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter died in November 2023. After hearing the news, Trisha Yearwood shared a heartfelt tribute to her longtime friend.

Yesterday, Yearwood took to social media to share a photo of her working alongside Carter on a Habitat for Humanity build. “Rest easy, Mr. President,” she wrote in the post. “I’m sad for us and happy for you. You and Mrs. Rosalynn’s legacy of love will live forever,” she added.
The post was fitting in that Yearwood and Garth Brooks met the Carters while working on a Habitat for Humanity build project. They continued to work together over the years and their working relationship bloomed into a close friendship.
The Carters helped build homes for those in need until 2023. Last year, Yearwood and Brooks took over the annual Habitat for Humanity Carter Build Project, carrying the torch of charity for their friends.
Trisha Yearwood Speaks on Her Relationship with Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter
Trisha Yearwood spoke to People about her and Garth Brooks’ relationship with Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter in 2021. “They’ve been such role models to us ever since we met them probably 12 or 13 years ago when we started doing Habitat builds with them,” she recalled. “They’re just the example of who you want to be. They served our country but then, beyond the, what they’ve done in the world and how they’ve helped people globally, they’re the example of what to be,” Yearwood added.
“They’ve inspired us in a lot of ways,” Brooks said of the Carters in a 2023 interview with People. “in the ways you expect—humanity, humbleness, work ethic. But, they’ve also inspired us by their example as husband and wife,” he added. Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter met when they were very young and went on to be married for 77 years before she died last year.
