Talk of a new Tyler Childers album has been floating around the internet since last month. A top-level RCA Records executive mentioned that the “In Your Love” singer would release a Rick Rubin-produced record in the coming months. More recently, Childers shared a video packed with Easter eggs to announce the forthcoming project.

Childers seemingly enjoys teasing his fans with cryptic videos. He shared short clips laced with clues ahead of some of his previous releases as well. Earlier today (June 11), he shared a clip that has fans around the world talking. The 48-second clip seems to reference several fan-favorite unreleased songs from the Kentucky native’s catalog. Watch the clip below.

Is Tyler Childers Hinting at Unreleased Songs on the New Album?
As the video starts we see Casey Campbell, the actor that appeared in several of Tyler Childers’ previous videos. He appeared in “In Your Love,” “Angel Band,” “All Your’n” and “House Fire.” Now, he’s front-and-center in this new teaser.
This time around, he’s sitting in a barber’s chair getting his “ears lowered” before attending a meeting at the “Hunting club.” Days before Childers released this clip, he launched the Hickman Holler Hunting Club website and Instagram account. The website features a countdown to the time and date used as the title of the video–June 12, 8 am ET. It also allows fans to pre-save the forthcoming release and sign up for a mailing list.
Listen closely to the music playing in the background and you’ll hear “Nose on the Grindstone,” a fan favorite song that has never received a studio recording. The song is available on Childers’ 2017 OurVinyl Sessions EP and it is a staple of his setlists.
After the barber finishes his haircut, Casey crosses paths with his next customer, a woman named Oneida. There’s an awkward moment of recognition between the two. She looks away without speaking, and Casey stares after her before walking out of the barber shop.
Fans have been clamoring for Childers to release a studio version of “Oneida” for years. Several took to the comment section of the video to share their excitement about this Easter egg.
Unclear References
The video ends as the camera focuses on a taxidermied bird. Many commenters assumed that the bird was a Jersey giant, which would hint that Tyler Childers planned to finally record the song of the same name. However, the Jersey giant is a species of chicken that looks nothing like the specimen in the video’s final frames.
The bird resembles a ring-necked pheasant, but isn’t an exact match. In fact, Cornell Lab’s Merlin bird identification app couldn’t find a match for the species on display. So, it could be an amalgamation of birds, like the avian version of a jackalope. This might be a hint that Childers intends to release “Snipe Hunt.” Admittedly, though, snipes are much smaller and look nothing like the bird on display.
Between Casey’s awkward moment with Oneida and the shot of the mystery bird, a woman with golden-blonde hair wearing a sly smile comes into the frame briefly. Since nothing seems to be in the video by chance, this might be a reference to another unreleased song. “Her and the Banks” opens with the line Hair like the sun and eyes just as green. However, it is hard to see the color of her eyes in the clip.
