Watch The Avett Brothers Perform a Toby Keith Classic in This Sneak Peek of Their First ‘Austin City Limits’ Performance in More Than a Decade

When the Avett Brothers released their self-titled album in 2024, it was their first in five years. This weekend, they’ll be returning to Austin City Limits for the first time in more than a decade. The broadcast will see the group performing fan favorites as well as tracks from their self-titled album. Additionally, they’ll pay tribute to Toby Keith with a cover of “Good as I Once Was.”

During the return to Austin City Limits, the Avett Brothers will work through almost an entire set of original songs. Then, before they close with “No Hard Feelings,” the three-piece band gave a nod to Keith with their spot-on cover of his 2005 hit. The brothers’ harmonies take the song to a new level. Watch them put their spin on the TK classic below.

Keith co-wrote “As Good as I Once Was” with his longtime collaborator Scotty Emerick. He released it in 2005 as the second single from Honkytonk University. It climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and stayed there for six weeks. It and “Beer for My Horses” are tied for his longest-running chart toppers.

The Avett Brothers Return to Austin City Limits

The Avett Brothers made their Austin City Limits debut during season 35. They came back in season 40. Now, they’re back for the first time in more than a decade. The three-piece is just one of several exciting acts to take the ACL stage for the second half of the landmark 50th season. Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Willie Nelson, Mickey Guyton, and Carín León will also perform in the coming weeks.

The Avett Brothers’ episode will air on PBS this Saturday (January 18) at 7 PM Central Time. After the episode airs, it will be available to stream on the PBS website.
