Yes, we’re talking about that Chet Hanks: the man once known for being the famous son of Tom Hanks who put on a Jamaican accent for a number of hip-hop songs early in his career. Now, it looks like Hanks is making a turn toward country. Hanks recently formed a new music project with singer/songwriter Drew Arthur called Something Out West. The duo just released a new country-rock track titled “You Better Run” yesterday, and the music video is making waves. Specifically, the new visual features Chet Hanks and his father Tom Hanks in a sort of tribute to the latter’s role in the classic film Forrest Gump.

It seems as though Hanks is making the same move to country music from hip hop that a number of his contemporaries have in recent years. Post Malone and Jelly Roll are just a few examples. His partnership with Drew Arthur yielded their debut single, “Leaving Hollywood”, which was released last month.
Chet Hanks Channels ‘Forrest Gump’ in New Music Video for Something Out West
In the video for “You Better Run”, Chet Hanks takes the viewer on a Forrest Gump-themed odyssey. Tom Hanks makes a cameo in the video. His son plays a somewhat similar role to his own in the famed 1994 comedy-drama. Interestingly enough, the song itself doesn’t really reference the movie at all, but the music video is packed with references.

Drew Arthur and Chet Hanks first started collaborating when they were roommates in California. After getting sober together and moving to Nashville, the pair signed with Big Machine Records. According to reports, they are currently recording their debut album with producer Julian Raymond.
This isn’t Hanks’ first venture into music. He initially got some attention with his relatively un-serious debut single, “White Boy Summer”, in 2021. He was previously signed with Soulja Boy’s label and released the song “I FUX WITCHA” but hasn’t released any more material with the label since. Hanks also returned to his acting career recently with his role as Travis Bugg in the sports comedy series Running Point on Netflix.
