Back in 2018, Tyler Childers walked on stage at the Americana Music Honors & Awards to accept the Emerging Artist of the Year award. Since that moment, he has released several albums like Country Squire, Long Violent History, and his latest, Rustin’ in the Rain. Along the way, the country singer also received numerous Grammy nominations for Best Country Song and Best Country Album. With more than a few hit songs on his setlist, Childers recently shocked fans when he decided to perform “Jersey Giant.”

For any fans who happened to attend a concert of Childers, the country singer often entertained them with songs like “Lady May”, Whitehouse Road” and even ‘Shake the Frost.” But there were some songs that Childers appeared to skip. And “Jersey Giant” was one of them. Performing the song at a different time in his life, the singer seemed to move away from the lyrics. Yet, when taking the stage in Lexington, Kentucky, fans were left speechless when he started to sing the classic.
With videos of the performance making their way online, fans couldn’t get enough of “Jersey Giant” as comments included, “Childers casually has no clue just how wild this is that he actually performed it live.” One comment added, “Just got home from the show. Loved everything, but this was a huge highlight and very special. The drone show was also amazing.”

Tyler Childers Discusses His Thoughts On “Jersey Giant”
Outside of Childers deciding to bring the song back to the stage, he once discussed his thoughts on the hit after Elle King covered it. At the time, he shared online, “I wrote ‘Jersey Giant’ over ten years ago and only performed it for a short period of time. I was pleased with how it turned out structurally (it even has a bridge, which is rare for me), but I was over performing it pretty fast.”
Describing the song as a coat, Childers continued, “I reckon that’s just how songs go sometimes. They can be like that coat you saw and had to have, only to get it home and think, ‘Why, gah, I ain’t never gonna wear this thing.’ Or, one that you got from an ex which you would rather just toss out. But that’s not saying anything against the coat, it just doesn’t fit me anymore and hasn’t for some time.”
While the song might not fit Childers anymore, his performance in Kentucky proved that the country star never forgot the emotions behind the lyrics.
