A Weezer movie is in the works. During the band’s last-minute set at Coachella, frontman Rivers Cuomo revealed that he and his bandmates have been working on a movie.

“We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in LA the last couple weeks, but when Coachella called us up, said, ‘Hey Weezer, could you guys make it out for a surprise appearance?’ we’re like, ‘Heck yeah!’” Cuomo said. “It feels so good to be here with you guys and let out these emotions.”
No other details about the project were revealed. Stereogum, however, reported that talk about the movie has been circulating among Weezer fans.
That chatter apparently dates back to October 2024, when actor Ben Schwartz addressed the crowd at a Weezer concert and discussed a movie, per the outlet.
“Now, there’s a big fight where Weezer is fighting these big villains. What’s going to happen now is they’re going to follow me, and I’m going to be fighting in different areas,” Schwartz said. “I’m going to say, ‘Someone throws a punch at someone from Weezer,’ and then you’ll react to that. And then I say, ‘And Weezer kicks their butt!’ and then you react to that.”
Schwartz proceeded to act out a fight scene and the crowd appropriately responded with gasps and screams.
Additionally, the outlet called attention to one post on X, that claimed the band is set to do “a private filmed merchandise signing for a select few fans for a TBA video.” That’s reportedly set to film on April 21.

Weezer’s Busy Week
Shortly before Weezer’s Coachella set and movie announcement, the band was in the headlines for a different reason. Bassist Scott Shriner’s wife, Jillian Shriner, was arrested for attempted murder.
The incident occurred when the musician’s wife exited her home with a handgun after hearing commotion from an unrelated police chase.
“The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times; however, she refused,” the LAPD said in a press release. “Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred. Shriner was struck by gunfire and fled into her residence. She later exited and was taken into custody.”
She was transferred to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The musician’s wife is currently out of custody on a $1 million bond. She is due in court on April 30.
