Hitting No. 1 with 1991’s “She’s in Love With the Boy,” Trisha Yearwood became one of the decade’s signature female country artists. Currently, the three-time CMA Award winner is gearing up to release her first album in six years, The Mirror, in July. With her 15th studio record comes a career first, as The Mirror marks the first time Yearwood co-wrote and co-produced an entire album. Earlier this week, the “How Do I Live” songstress, 60, got candid about how husband Garth Brooks inspired her latest project.

Even after 20 years of marriage, Yearwood still sometimes balks at the thought of her Songwriters Hall of Fame husband critiquing her material. “So when you live in a house with this guy, you don’t want to play the song, because I don’t want him to go, ‘Oh, that’s nice.’ You know, because that’s the kiss of death,” she said during a TalkShopLive stream earlier this week. “Like, if I make him a meal and he’s like, ‘That’s fine…’ we don’t ever say that, because that means it needs work.”
Chuckling, Yearwood added, “I wanted him to be honest, but I also didn’t want him to be too honest.”

Trisha Yearwood Previously Co-Wrote a Song on Her Husband’s Album
Only hardcore Garth Brooks fans remember the Chris Gaines era.
In 1999, the “Unanswered Prayers” crooner, 63, created a fictional rock-star persona named Chris Gaines. Looking to explore his career outside the confines of country music, Brooks released one album under the alias, Garth Brooks in…the Life of Chris Gaines.
During the TalkShopLive interview, Trisha Yearwood revealed that she is listed as a co-writer on one of the album’s tracks. The song, “Main Street,” came about when Brooks set his wife down and asked her for stories about growing up in her small Georgia hometown.
“We had this conversation, and he’s the one that made it poetry,” Yearwood recalled.
In fact, fans of the three-time Grammy Award winner have Brooks to thank for her latest project.
“He is my biggest cheerleader,” Yearwood said of her husband. “And I will say, he’s the guy who’s been telling me for 35 years, ‘You’re a songwriter.’”
