New York, October 7, 2010 – Prolific singer/songwriter and native New Yorker Garland Jeffreys and 2009 New York Songwriters Circle Grand Prize Winner Reed Waddle will both be taking to the stage at the City Winery (155 Varick St) on November 18th when the SongCircle kicks off its fifth annual live “Songwriters Contest” finals (formerly The New York Songwriters’ Circle www.songcirclemusic.com). Vertical Horizon co-founder Keith Kane and 2008 Grand Prize Winner Mieka Pauley will book end the performances the following night at the City Winery when the SongCircle and its esteemed panel of judges makes their final decision on who the 2010 SongCircle “Songwriters Contest” Grand Prize winner will be from a field of 12 finalists. The SongCircle’s contest, a hotbed for discovering aspiring songwriters and artists, has helped launch the careers of previous grand prize winners Kate Voegele (Interscope), Company Of Thieves (Wind-Up/Sony), Mieka Pauley, and Reed Waddle.
In 2010, contestants will compete for over $25,000 in cash and prizes for the best original songs which includes a recording, publishing and full label services joint venture agreement with SongCircle Music distributed by EMI, cash awards up to $10,000, a chance to perform on the original Woodstock stage sponsored Bethlewoods Center for the Arts, guitars from Gibson and Martin, studio sessions with a top record producers, and more. The songs will be judged based on structure, melody, lyrics, uniqueness and performance/presentation.
The contest is open to all level 2 and 3 members of the SongCircle community, except where prohibited by law. Level 2 and 3 members can enter songs for free as a feature of their paid membership. SongCircleMusic.com offers two levels of paid memberships, Premium — level 2, Premium Plus — level 3, in addition to a free membership that is open to all; however, free members may not enter any songs in the Contest.
